The Dashamsha Chart (D-10): Reading Your Career Divisional Chart

The Rasi chart — the main birth chart — tells you a great deal about career direction. The 10th house, its lord, Saturn, the Sun, and the planets aspecting the Midheaven all contribute to the professional picture. But the Rasi chart has a resolution limit. It divides the zodiac into twelve 30-degree segments. Two people born 20 minutes apart may share identical Rasi placements yet pursue radically different careers. The Rasi chart explains the general theme. It does not always explain the specific field, the workplace dynamics, or the career trajectory across decades.^[1]

This is where divisional charts earn their value. The Dashamsha (D-10) divides each Rasi sign into ten segments of 3 degrees each, creating a specialized chart with ten times the angular resolution for career analysis. A planet at 15° Aries and a planet at 18° Aries occupy the same Rasi sign but may land in different D-10 signs — and that difference translates into different professional outcomes. The D-10 is to career what the Navamsha (D-9) is to marriage: a magnification tool that reveals what the Rasi chart sketches.

The Calculation

Each 30-degree sign is divided into ten equal segments of 3 degrees. The first segment (0°-3°) maps to a specific sign according to a rule that differs for odd and even signs. For odd signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius), the first segment maps to the sign itself, and subsequent segments progress sequentially through the zodiac. For even signs (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces), the first segment maps to the sign opposite the natal sign, and subsequent segments progress from there.^[2]

This means two planets both in Leo but at 2° and 5° land in different D-10 signs. The 2° planet occupies the first dashamsha of Leo (mapped to Leo itself), while the 5° planet occupies the second dashamsha (mapped to Virgo). That three-degree difference — invisible in the Rasi chart — produces a measurable career distinction in the D-10.

Birth Time Sensitivity

Because each D-10 segment spans only 3 degrees, birth time accuracy matters more for the Dashamsha than for the Rasi chart. A planet moves approximately 1 degree in the Dashamsha for every 12 minutes of birth time error (for the Ascendant, which moves fastest). The D-10 Lagna

The D-10 Ascendant describes your professional persona — the version of you that shows up in work settings. It may differ significantly from your Rasi Lagna. A Rasi Lagna in Cancer (nurturing, emotionally driven) with a D-10 Lagna in Capricorn (ambitious, structure-oriented, disciplined) produces someone who is emotionally sensitive at home but sharply professional at work. Yogas in the D-10

Yogas that form in the D-10 apply specifically to professional life. A Raja Yoga in the D-10 — Kendra and Trikona lords connected — indicates career elevation regardless of the Rasi chart's career indicators. A Dhana Yoga in the D-10 suggests wealth generated specifically through professional activity. Conversely, Daridra indicators in the D-10 suggest professional environments that underpay, undervalue, or structurally limit the native's earning potential. Other D-10 Houses

• 7th house: Professional partnerships, clients, and business associates. Planets here describe the type of people you work with and the nature of collaborative dynamics.
• 6th house: Workplace competition, professional rivals, and daily work routines. Malefics here can indicate the ability to overcome professional obstacles.
• 11th house: Professional networks, income from career, and achievement of professional goals. A strong 11th in the D-10 indicates career-generated prosperity.
• 2nd house: Professional resources, workplace speech and communication, and the financial foundation the career builds.

The most reliable career analysis synthesizes both the Rasi chart and the D-10. Neither alone tells the complete story. The Rasi chart provides the macro narrative — the general career direction, the 10th lord's condition, the major Yogas that shape professional destiny. Agreement Between Charts

When the Rasi and D-10 agree — the 10th lord strong in both, career-supporting Yogas present in both, benefic planets activating the professional sectors of both charts — the career indication is robust and reliable. Disagreement Between Charts

When the charts disagree — strong Rasi career indicators but a weak D-10, or vice versa — the picture is more nuanced. A strong Rasi 10th house with a weak D-10 suggests someone who appears professionally successful from the outside but experiences dissatisfaction, instability, or misalignment internally. A weak Rasi 10th house with a strong D-10 suggests someone whose early career may stall but whose professional competence eventually outperforms expectations.

The Dasha Bridge

Dasha periods connect the two charts to specific timeframes. When the Mahadasha of a planet that is strong in both the Rasi and the D-10 runs, career flourishes. When the Mahadasha of a planet weak in both charts runs, career contracts.
